Safety
To enable the free circulation of construction equipment within the internal EU market, the relevant technical requirements on safety minimising the risk of accidents caused by the use of machinery (e.g. the operators field of view in a machine) have been harmonised through the Machinery Directive. New technologies and recent developments are reflected in the supporting harmonised safety standards.
Also harmonised are requirements to protect those in the immediate environment where the equipment is being used from the potentially harmful effects of noise emissions. This was done in the Outdoor Noise Directive. Also in other domains, such as Low-Voltage and Electromagnetic Compatibility, harmonised requirements do exist.
Unfortunately, not all the requirements are harmonised in the EU, in particular the road circulation requirements for non-road mobile machinery occasionally going on the road.
