CECE speaks at Construction 4.0 workshop raising M2M communication & ePrivacy
The aim of the debate was to highlight the potential of digitisation applied to the construction sector trough the experience of organisations, companies and Institutions involved in this process at different levels. Less than 6% of construction companies make full use of digital planning tools today and digitisation would offer an opportunity to boost a stagnating productivity and re-launch the sector.
“In construction we currently have between 2 and 4 trillion dollars in cost overruns – stated Bandry – and the solution is digitisation. Thanks to the technology we have at our disposal, we can guarantee better safety, better sustainability and spend half the time to build a project”.
A revolution, those connected to digitisation, which risks being threatened and slowed down by the idea to include the Machine-to-Machine communication in the ePrivacy Regulation, extending the concept of personal consent to machines.
Another sensitive issue which could put at risk the smooth digitization in the sector of construction is the e-skills lacks that affect Europe. The scarcity of training courses and trainers require measures aimed at developing educational paths to provide the industry with engineers and technician capable of reaping the benefits of new technology.
