EU Commission adopts additional tariffs against US exports including construction machines
After receiving the green light from the WTO (Boeing dispute), the European Commission has adopted on 9th November countermeasures against US exports in the form of additional tariffs, including ad valorem import duties of 25% on certain types of construction machines.
The regulation took effect on 10th November and applies to the following categories of construction machines:
- 8429 51 10 - self-propelled front-end shovel loaders specially designed for underground use
- 8429 51 91 - self-propelled front-end crawler shovel loaders (other than specially designed for underground use)
- 8429 51 99 - self-propelled front-end shovel loaders (other than specially designed for underground use or crawler shovel loaders)
The EU was authorized by the WTO to adopt additional tariffs as countermeasures for the illegal subsidies that the US has given to the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
The European Commission stands ready to work with the US to settle this long-running dispute and also to agree on long-term disciplines on aircraft subsidies.
