Luz Cerezo Álvarez

Aggregates Quarry Manager at Votorantim Cimentos, Founder and Honorific President of Women in Mining & Industry Spain

Luz Cerezo Álvarez is a Mining Engineer and Civil Engineer with more than 16 years of experience in production in civil works and underground and open pit mining. Passionate about underground work, she studied Mining Engineering by vocation, after specializing in the profession.  

She has worked on large underground works in the Basque Country and Galicia with budgets of between €50 and €160 million.  

Luz has also worked in subterranean metal mining, forming part of the team that put into place innovative mining technologies such as remote control systems for the removal of cameras, drilling or remote blasting, as well as the Mining Operations Control Center for Mina Magdalena and Mina de Aguas Teñidas. 

She is currently Head of Quarry at Grupo Votorantim, responsible for the exploitation of silicon gravel for the production of high-quality sand and aggregates, as well as the processing plant. 

Convinced that if you believe in it, create it, Luz was one of the founders in 2019 of the Association Women in Mining & Industry Spain. She also served as President for almost four years with the aim of achieving equal opportunities between women and men in both sectors, thus contributing her little grain of sand to the fulfilment of the Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (Objectives of Sustainable Development). She is currently honorary president of the Association.
