Daniel’s principal focus is on policy development in the area of standards and regulations. This includes BSI’s role as the UK’s National Standards Body, and its interactions with government, the UK quality infrastructure (standards, accreditation, metrology) and innovation support systems. He also leads BSI’s consumer engagement team. He has extensive experience of working with stakeholders to show how standards support policy and regulations, how they enhance consumer safety, how they help advance business performance and innovation, and how they are essential to trade and international relations.
Daniel has spent time in UK government on full-time secondment, where he worked in the Office for Product Safety and Standards on standards and accreditation policy. At BSI he has held operational and managerial positions right across the standards business, including international committee management, and publishing and editorial roles. He has commissioned research into the economic impact of standards, notably publishing the Centre for Economics and Business Research’s landmark report on the topic in 2015 and its revision in 2021–22.
